the book is forthcoming. by Danyel Smith. a history of black women in pop. from It Books/HarperCollins (2014). now writing. tumbling this stuff keeps me inspired, and keeps my brain sane.

Like today, I’m not—I don’t think that I’m playing…When he wants me to play, he’ll send a message, and then I get there, go into hair and makeup. Maybe an hour before the show he’ll give me a list, and I’ll figure out where I come in and out of the show…”
